The club holds internal competitions that are contests between individual members of the club. There are five competitions throughout the season, four of which are open and one, the Annual, which has six categories or themes, Action, Close Up/Tabletop, Landscape, Miscellaneous Pictorial, Nature History and People, with entries usually being submitted no later than one week prior to the evening of judging for print competitions and 48 hours prior to judging evening for PDI competitions expect for the Annual Competition where entries must be submitted 4 weeks prior the judging evening. Finally, there is an end of season ‘Image of the Year’ competition which is judged on all the images that are placed first, second and third in the four open competitions. For all competitions during the 2026 season there are four separate formats, colour prints, monochrome prints colour projected digital images and monochrome projected digital images. Members may submit up to two colour prints, two monochrome prints, two colour digital images and two monochrome digital images in each competition. An image should be entered only once, either in the print or digital section (i.e. once used in one section, the image should not be entered in the other section for a later month). Digital entries whether for the DPI or the Print section are to be submitted to the Secretary via email to merthyrcameraclub@gmail.com prior to the notified closing date and time (usually by 6pm on the closing date). Prints can be delivered to the Secretary at any club meeting up to and including the closing date.
