2026 Programme
Discover what’s happening at Merthyr Tydfil Camera Club, from photography presentations, videos, prints and projected images. During our weekly meetings we also have workshops and competitions.
This programme of events are fluid therefore date, time, and content of events are subject to change so constantly check this page for any changes.
This season we are looking to program in more practical sessions, with workshops spread over two consecutive Wednesday evenings. The aim is to give us more time to discuss and set-up equipment and give everyone more opportunity to take shots.

Summer Break

Welcome Back – ‘Show & Tell’ Evening plus Image Selection for Rhondda Open:
Members who wish to show and tell us about some of the images they have taken over the summer break. Please bring images on a USB stick
Selection of 4 PDI images for the Rhondda Open in October, can each member bring 2 PDI images to be considered for selection.

Practical Workshop 7 – Week 1 – Splash, Water and Oil Photography:
An evening where Club members experimenting with the use of water and other objects to produce creative and interesting images. Guest Speaker – An Evening with Andy Leslie
Alan Leslie makes a second visit to the club this time as a presenter. This evening will be entertaining club members with his ‘Wild Life/Street Life’ Talk.

Image Selection for 3-Way Battle:
Select images (8 Prints and 8 PDIs) of the 3-Way Battle against Barry CC and Rhiwbina CC. Held this year at Rhiwbina CC on Friday October 16th.

External Competition – Rhondda Open:
External PDI Competition held by Rhondda Camera Club at The Dai Davies Community Centre, Palmers Row, Porth, CF39 9ER starts at 7:00pm

Internal Competition – Panel:
The New Panel competition comprises of a cohesive set of 3 print linked by a strong theme, story, or visual style, judged as a single body of work rather than as individual images. The panel will requiring consistent mounting, colour and tonality, and visual flow to tell a deeper narrative or to able to explore the images subject comprehensively. The winning panel will received a new trophy ‘The Walter Waygood Trophy’

Our fourth and final prints competition of the year. Each member to bring in a maximum of 3 colour prints and 3 Monochrome prints

Internal Competition 4 – PDIs:
Our fourth and final PDI competition of the year. Each member submit up to a maximum of 3 PDIs, images can be all colour, all monochrome or a mix of both.

Practical Workshop 8 – Week 1 – Still-Life Photography:
An evening of Still-life Photography, member will attempt to create interesting set-ups with different lighting techniques and subjects. Remember to bring your cameras tripods and items to make interesting set-ups. An evening with Barry Hill judging our Image of the Year from the images that were placed first, second and third in all this year competitions in both Print and PDIs..

Guest Speaker – An Evening with Steve Greening AWPF.
Steve Greening is a new presenter on the WPF circuit and will be making his first visit to Merthyr Tydfil Camera Club. Steve gained his AWPF in 2024 with a panel on Insect Marco. Steve will be presenting his “Day out in Nature” talk which is a print and digital talk in two parts, which is mainly insects/bugs and some birds.

2026 Annual Competition:
An evening with Barry Hill judging our Annual Competition, who will be selecting a winning print and projected digital image from each of the following categories Action, Close Up/Tabletop, Landscape, Miscellaneous Pictorial, Natural History and People.

The End of Season Quiz Night & Annual Fish Supper & Quiz Night
Final club evening of the season. Our annual end of season Quiz Night along with a fish and chips supper from Sammy’s Fish Bar.
