After the War to Present Time.
With the end of the war it can be assume that normal activities would have resumed for Merthyr and District Camera Club, although at present there doesn’t seem to many newspaper report other than a few scattered here and there. On this page we have highlighted the few that can be currently found.
Right: Another report from the Merthyr Express dated 17 Feb 1958. Although on about the club itself it report on the retirement of Alderman Jim Davies from his position as Secretary of the South Wales and Monmouthshire Associated Society of Locomen and Firemen. Alderman Davies had worked as an engine-driver with the Great Western Railway in Merthyr Tydfil, he was also a keen photographer and was secretary of the Merthyr and District Camera Club at this time. You will notice his very interesting retirement presents of two armchairs and £25 worth of Camera equipment.


Left: A report this time from the Porthcawl Guardian dated 10 March 1961. It reports how the club travelled to Port Talbot CC for the first ‘North v West’ print battle. The club along Maesteg CC represented the North whilst Neath and Port Talbot represented the West. Each club submitted 10 prints which were judged by My Ron Evans ARPS of Swansea. many of the prints were of such a high standard and quality that it was hoped that they would going on to be displayed at the upcoming Walsh Salon. The West eventually won the battle by one point.
Right: A report this time from the Neath Guardian dated 3 November 1977. It reports how the club travelled to Neath CC to part in a 6 club colour slide battle with each club submitting 7 colour slides. The battle was judged by Mr Gilbert Hooper APRS of Swansea. The outcome of the battle sadly was not reported.


Left: A report from the Merthyr Express dated September 1988. This small newspaper clipping although only reports events going on at Cyfarthfa Castle and Museum for the month of September, it shows an important landmark in the history of Merthyr Tydfil Camera Club, as it report that the exhibition marking the 50th Anniversary was running in the castle until the 25 September.

Right: From South Wales Echo dated 3 October 1990, a report highlighting the club’s success in the Gwynfa Contemporary Photography Competition in which club coming away winning the Best Club Trophy and club member Roy Lewis winning the Best Overall Image Trophy. Cled Davies (centre) accepting the trophy on behalf of the club was the father of present club member Selwyn Davies.


Left: From the Merthyr Express dated 22 August 1991, a report highlighting the club’s upcoming exhibition at Cyfarthfa Castle and Museum presenting images take on the club’s trips to Clichy in France to the mark the twinning of the town with Merthyr Tydfil and to Scotland.

Right: From 29 April 1993, a report regarding an upcoming talk by club member Glan Howells on trip to Yugoslavia prior to the splitting up of the country.
